All those who spend more than a day in Omiš will most likely have the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich pirate history of the city. But only those lucky ones who find themselves in the city in mid-August will be able to experience first-hand what a pirate's everyday life was like more than 600 years ago.
Every year on August 18 in the city port of Omiš, a real - pirate battle takes place! Well, if we pay close attention to detail, then it should be emphasized that this is a reconstruction of the battle that originally took place in the 13th century, but when two large sailing ships collide with the deafening noise of flintlocks just a few meters from you, you will easily think that you are in the middle of a real naval conflict.
But don't worry, no matter how convincing the actors are, it's still only a well-designed show, and the only thing you really have to worry about during the battle is whether there will be enough memory on your camera to record hundreds of stunts, falls and sword fights between the citizens of Omiš and the Venetians.
In just a few years, the pirate battle has grown into one of the peaks of Omiš's tourist offer, and every summer this maritime spectacle attracts more than 10,000 visitors to our city, all of whom leave the city port overjoyed. And how could they not be. Swords, flintlocks, theatrical falls into the sea and the collision of two huge sailing ships. The Pirate Battle is a free Hollywood blockbuster that takes place right before your eyes.
